We All Do Better When We Support Each Other

Janet McUlsky’s Interview with HealthyWomen

At McUlsky Health Force, we know that patient advocacy has evolved tremendously, but the core fundamentals of authentic advocacy remain the same.

In an interview from 2022 with Healthy Women, Janet McUlsky reflected on her decades-long work in advocacy, from shifting the focus to patient empowerment in the 1980s to helping advocacy groups build lasting influence. The ideas from this interview will always be relevant, and we're excited to share them with you.

Janet emphasized:

  • The importance of transparency when working with industry
  • The need for long-term relationships between advocates and policymakers
  • The value of informing and educating patients to be empowered in their decision-making
  • The power of collaboration over competition in driving real change
“I think the biggest challenge is how do you work with industry, broadly speaking, without losing your credibility—really making sure that you're always front and center, focused on doing what's best for patients and not allowing yourself to get your reputation tarnished in any way.”

At McUlsky Health Force, we continue this mission of empowering advocacy organizations, building strategic alliances, and ensuring patients have a voice in healthcare decisions.
